Hey, everyone! I’m here today to review three highly sought after lip scrubs. I’m serious when I say sought after, I bought the last ones of all of these products, so they’re hard to get in stores! I don’t know about you, but I have really dry lips pretty much all of the time, so I decided to do some research on lip scrubs. I found that the Tarte Maracuja Lip Scrub is the highest rated scrub on Sephora.com. However, when I went to purchase it at the Sephora in Downtown Chicago, it was nowhere to be found. That’s when the Sephora employee suggested I buy the Bite Beauty scrub instead, insisting that it’s a sellout product. I finally got my hands on the Tarte scrub a few days ago, since it’s the one I originally wanted. I also picked up the ELF scrub while I was shopping around and I decided to test all three of them out at the same time and review them just for you!
Here is a video of me trying out each lip scrub! Watch and read my thoughts below afterwards so you’ll know what I’m thinking.
BITE BEAUTY (retails for $18.00 at Sephora)
The packaging is very minimalist and basic. This is exactly how you would expect a lip scrub to come. Not very interesting or eye catching.
This lip scrub is sticky and kind of gummy. It was also hard to get ahold of with my finger, hence the messy mark I left behind.
This smells TERRIBLE. It’s supposed to be a “Whipped Cherry” scent but it smells more like bubblegum, and not in a good way. I have a surprised facial expression after trying this scrub in the video because I was shocked at how terrible it smelled.
This lip scrub definitely lives up to its task, it has scrubbing beads that get the exfoliating done (as seen in the video).
Even though this gets the job done, the scent is so bad and the packing game is weak. The consistency is also not very good. I do not recommend this lip scrub.
TARTE (retails for $16.00 at Sephora)
The packaging on this lip scrub is beautiful. I love the ornamentation, and the tin gives it a more old-timey glamour feel, which I love.
This lip scrub feels just like vaseline, very smooth and jelly-like.
SMELLS AMAZING! This is made from maracuja, which smells exactly like peppermint and it’s really strong and minty, which is great.
There’s sugar that blends in with the scrub so it’s kind of hard to see, but this scrub is definitely effective. The minty sensation also tingles your lips so it plumps them at the same time! Basically a 2-in-1 product!
I LOVE THIS! I love peppermint, so I’m kinda biased, but it smells so good and the packaging is so pretty! Like I said before, mint (so I guess maracuja??) naturally makes your lips swell up a little bit (it’s a common ingredient used in a lot of lip plumpers), so you’re getting even more than you bargained for which is fantastic.
ELF (retails for $3.00 at local drugstores, Target, etc)
This had the most interesting packaging; the scrub comes in a lipstick tube and is applied like a lipstick! This is definitely creative, but in a store I wouldn’t recognize this as a lip scrub right away. The only picture of the scrub is on the side of the box, which is also hard to see from a store shelf or rack.
The consistency is kind of waxy like a traditional lipstick, but with scrubbing beads mixed in.
This lip scrub smells like a candle! Not sure what kind of candle, but if you smelled it, you’d know what I mean. This smells like a good smelling candle.
The scrubbing beads are packed into the lipstick shape. I don’t think this scrub was as effective as the others due to the application style. It’s harder to really scrub deep with the lipstick shape; it’s too fragile.
I liked this scrub, but it was slightly weaker and the packaging was creative (this could be good or bad depending on how you look at it).
The Tarte scrub is rated the highest online for a reason. It’s awesome. It’s worth the price. The Bite Beauty scrub is disgusting and I’m never using it again. The Elf one was pretty ok, I can definitely think of circumstances where a lipstick shaped applicator would be more desirable than using my finger. It’s good for when you’re out and about and your hands might be too dirty to use a regular scrub. The price point is also a huge plus.
I hope you all enjoyed this review! I’m planning to do more beauty reviews like this in the future. If you have any thoughts or suggestions, comment below!
