Skin Deep

Hey, everyone! Back in the day, I was really adamant about having clear skin.  I used to wash my face with three different products every single day.  Needless to say, I had clear skin for most of my teenage years, but during these last few years I’ve been struggling to keep flare-ups at bay.  Having a solid skin care routine is crucial.  There are so many products out there that it’s hard to know what works and what doesn’t. That said, everyone is different, but this is a list of products that I’ve found that work and work well to combat acne and dry skin.  Every now and then, I try out a new product, but these ones are definitely constants.

 1. Noxzema Anti-Blemish Pads

These are ESSENTIAL.  They’re difficult to find in stores, so I’ve tried the Clean and Clear and store brand knockoffs of these and none are as good as the real thing.  These pads remove makeup, dirt, and oil from your face and you can actually feel and SEE the difference (the pads are white, but after you rub them on your face you can see all the dirt you’ve just removed. Kind of gross but very reassuring). These go well with a night-time skin regimen; I use these on my face right before I go to bed.

2. Clinique Moisturizer

This product doesn’t help with acne, but it’s life-changing.  I didn’t bring any with me when I went abroad and it was one of the biggest packing regrets I had.  I put this on my face when I wake up; it seeps into your skin and makes you feel awake on your groggiest days.   I seriously don’t know what I would do without it.

3. Mario Badescu Drying Lotion

If your breakouts are small and sparse, spot treatments are your friend.  This spot treatment is perfect if you need/want to be blemish free on short notice.  It reduces redness and dries out the affected area for a quicker recovery time.  Recently, I’ve also been using this treatment gel by Mary Kay, and it’s been working wonders.

4. Clean and Clear Morning Burst

This is a moisturizer and a face wash (as opposed to the Clinique one which is just a moisturizer).  The cucumber scent smells amazing and I love washing my face with this in the morning (hence the name, Morning Burst) with cold water.

5. Dark Angels Face Scrub

This face mask is made with charcoal and will help defeat breakouts and leave your skin impeccably clean.  I recommend buying a small size at Lush at first, and then, if you decide to put it into your skin routine you can size up.

6. DIY Face Scrub

When my breakouts are really stubborn and I have enough time on my hands, sometimes I do a 2-step DIY skin treatment.  First, I rinse my face with a small amount of apple cider vinegar. Then, I make a scrub using 3 tablespoons of honey with 1 tablespoon of cinnamon.  After leaving the scrub on for 5-15 minutes, I wash it off and my skin feels incredibly fresh and rejuvenated.

Thanks, Claudia! The scrub is great; I haven’t made it in a while but writing this post has made me want to set aside time to do so <3

I would love to try that LUSH one out. That sounds amazing and I love their products. I told myself that this year I am going to start being more consistent with my skincare routine again because I want it to be smooth and soft again. Thank you for these tips.
