Hey, everyone! There’s been a lot of buzz recently about Colourpop, and after hearing rave reviews and seeing how ridiculously inexpensive their products are, I decided to see what all the hullaballoo was about. This post took a long time to put together; I made sure to wear each of these products and fully test them out in order to write a detailed review for you guys! I really hope you find it helpful! I broke down each product into 4 categories (packaging, application, pigmentation, staying power) with a final score given at the end.
I ordered two eyeshadows (Dare and Slave2Pink), the Ultra Matte lip in More Better, and the Grind lip pencil and lipstick.
Eyeshadow in Dare and Slave2Pink
PACKAGING: These eyeshadows come in little pots. They’re cute and the design is clean.
APPLICATION: These shadows are powdered instead of pressed, so application was a bit trickier. I used an angle brush to sweep up the little bits and to spread the pigment across my eyelid. Kind of messy, so I’d recommend applying these over a sink for sure. Definitely the worst part about these eyeshadows.
PIGMENTATION: THE PINK ONE IS SOOOOO BRIGHT! Definitely not daytime friendly, but I can definitely see myself wearing this for a night out. The purple one, however, IS PERFECT!! I originally intended to purchase the pink one only, but I am so glad I sprung for the purple. I’m low-key obsessed with it.
STAYING POWER: I wore Dare in 90 degree heat for a full day. I put Urban Decay primer on one eyelid and no primer on the other to see how it would hold up. As you can see in the photo, the side without primer is a little more washed away, but these eyeshadows have great staying power. If you use primer, you’re definitely good to go, and even if you don’t, the loss was pretty minimal. Excellent staying power.
I give these 5 out of 5 stars! While the application could be better, the color payoff is huge. These live up to the hype and I’m going to purchase more in the future.
Ultra Matte Lip in More Better
PACKAGING: The packaging is elegant. I like the chromatic finish on the tube.
APPLICATION: I had trouble applying this product evenly. You have to be so careful with lip stain because, well, it stains.
PIGMENTATION: When I bought this color, I was looking for a maroon lip color but this has purple undertones instead of red. I Googled pictures of people wearing this color and it looked maroon. I was really disappointed that it doesn’t look maroon on me at all. Also, I had trouble getting even color across my lips. It showed up in certain spots more than others. I had to do several touch-ups to get all the coverage I needed. Not cool.
After I ate my lunch, my face became A DISASTER. The color spread all around my mouth (???) and it looked SO GROSS. I was horrified and took it all off immediately.
1/5 stars. So…the color was alright, but it wasn’t the color I was looking for, AND it was hard to get an even coating, AND it had horrible staying power. I was honestly so disappointed in this product. It has excellent reviews but I just didn’t have a good experience with this at all.
Lip Pencil and Lipstick in Grind
PACKAGING: The lipstick is SO SKINNY! Like, I was shocked at how tiny it is when I opened it. The packaging on the lip pencil is not so great; the cap of mine is constantly falling off which is super annoying.
APPLICATION: The pencil felt way too fragile and didn’t leave a thick enough or chalky enough outline. I also ran into the same problem with the lipstick as I did the lip stain; I had trouble getting an even coating (it took several coats and touchups. Ain’t nobody got time for that.)
PIGMENTATION: THE COLOR IS SO GOOD THOUGH!!! It’s the perfect purple; it stands out without being too bright.
STAYING POWER: The staying power was ehhh. Had to do lots of touch ups.
3/5 stars. The only thing these really had going for them was their color. They did poorly in the other three categories. I’m not sure I’m going to buy any more of these.
Call me a tough critic, but I just didn’t like most of these products (I WAS ROOTING FOR THESE PRODUCTS, WE WERE ALL ROOTING FOR THESE PRODUCTS, HOW DARE THEY!). The eyeshadows totally rock but the lip stuff was not so hot. This is a brand that has a pretty huge following right now, but I guess you get what you pay for. I was especially disappointed in the matte lip, like seriously, WHAT EVEN HAPPENED TO MY FACE??!?!?! Their lip stains are their most hyped products and that was the worst product in this review. Go figure. If you’re thinking about trying Colourpop, I’d check out their eye stuff but nothing else.
Have you tried Colourpop? Which products did you try/did you like them? Have suggestions for products I should try in future posts? Comment below! I love hearing what you have to say 🙂
