HAPPY HALLOWEEN! My FAVORITE HOLIDAY has arrived! This year, I decided to dress as everyone’s favorite Parisian boarding school girl, Madeline.  Although I still have my appendix and have yet to be rescued by a dog in the River Seine, Madeline is still one of my heroes some 17-odd years later.  The best thing about this costume is that the only thing I had to purchase for this was the hat– the rest was already in my wardrobe, so easy! I’m also the kind of person who starts thinking about their next costume a year out- so if you need me, I’ll be busy brainstorming for next year!  Below are some shots of me as Madeline taken outside of my university’s chapel for those vague European vibes~

Hey everyone! I’m here to talk about something of utmost importance: washing your face.  My teenage years were blissful in that they were pretty much blemish-free, and once I graduated high school, I thought I was (literally) in the clear for good. Joke’s on me, though, because I’ve been struggling with keeping my face clear all throughout college. I’ve tried numerous combinations of products but I have yet to find my holy grail. I was lucky enough to receive a Clarisonic Mia 2 skincare set to review for you all and this is my honest take on what happened to me when I used it.

WHAT YOU GET:

The Clarisonic Mia 2 set came with the device, the charging cable (not pictured above, the device comes fully charged and a full charge lasts 24 minutes), daily cleanser and facial mask.

HOW TO USE:

The Clarisonic Mia cleanses your face for 1 minute.  It beeps and vibrates (as shown above) after the first 20 seconds, the second 20 seconds, followed by two 10 second intervals. After applying water to your face and the device, you’re supposed to place it on your forehead and chin in the 20 second intervals and your cheeks for the 10 second intervals. You don’t need to apply much additional pressure to your face when using the device- it’s doing all the work  for you! The device is designed to be used with the cleanser given and the mask is designed to be used twice a week.

WHAT HAPPENED WHEN I USED IT:

My problem area in particular is my T-zone, specifically my chin (combo skin readers, you feel me?). I always apply more cleanser to this area.  When I started using my Clarisonic Mia, I had some breakouts on my chin area, as usual. Nothing too bad, just a few blemishes here and there.

I used the Mia with the cleanser every day for over a week, and on a few of those days I used the Mia with the face mask:

I was going to put a picture of my skin before and after, but you guys really don’t need to see all of the pimples on my chin right now. Like… why would you want to see that. Trust me, they’re there.

So…looks like I still haven’t found my holy grail. Thanks to the added stress of midterms, my skin actually looks WORSE than it did before I started using my Mia, meaning this system ALONE did not help my skin whatsoever.

TAKEAWAY PROS:

-The Clarisonic Mia feels like it’s really doing something to your skin cells- skin feels tingly and invigorated just after using.

-The face mask is so fun to use and also leaves skin feeling ultra soft.

TAKEAWAY CONS:

I think the main reason why this failed to work on my skin is the cleanser! The cleanser has a smooth/gentle formula- my skin needs something more rough-n-tough to fight all the excess oil.

If you’re the type of person who uses Cetaphil and more gentle cleansers as opposed to facial scrubs, then this might work well for you! I have started using my scrubs again at this point and my skin is going back from being worse than before to what it usually is.

FINAL NOTES:

Despite everything, I don’t want to color this experience with negativity.  I’m not going to stop using my Mia, I’m just going to stop using the cleanser and see if using the Mia in conjunction with a scrubbier cleanser is the answer to all of my problems.

All my combo skin peeps, stay tuned. And if you have tips for how to use your Mia- let me know! I’d love to hear about how I can put mine to good use.
