Kylie Cosmetics Valentine Collection, Posie Lip Kit, and Burgundy Palette Review

If you’re anything like me, you’ve been eyeing Kylie’s cosmetic line since the day it broke the Internet. Just HOW good are her lip kits, really? Are they worth it? Do her products live up to the hype? Well, lucky for you, my friend Katie and I are here to answer all of those questions for you. Katie and I tested out the Burgundy palette as well as the Valentine and Posie lip kits and we sure had a lot to say.

VALENTINE:

For her Valentine’s Day launch, I was able to get my hands on Valentine, one of Kylie’s ~limited edition~ lip kits. When I swatched it, I was instantly taken aback by how RED it is! I was expecting it to be similar to colors I already own, but I was surprised at how different it actually is. I swatched it next to other products so you can see what I mean:

Overall, this color is super bright and fun! I am a fan. The price, however, will only be worth it if Kylie doesn’t bring this shade back. 4.5/5

THE BURGUNDY PALETTE & POSIE:

Katie tells all…

Katie used Naked for the browbone, Penny in the crease, Burgundy on the lids and Almond and Brick in the crease and outer corners. She is wearing Posie as well!

PIGMENTATION:

Burgundy Palette: I had to really layer and blend the colors on this palette multiple times to achieve the kind of pigmentation I was looking for. However, I thought that the colors did blend together well. I chose to do a more everyday look for this post, but I could see how the range on the palette from browns to reds to pinks and metallics could create a great nighttime look as well. 4/5

Posie K: On the packaging, Kylie recommends one swipe for full pigmentation, and one swipe really is enough. After researching lip kits online, I chose Posie K, because it seemed to look dramatically different on different skin tones. Therefore, I was curious to see how it would look on me. I love the soft pink tone of Posie on me. As someone who predominantly wears all black everyday, I can see myself adopting Posie K as my everyday lip shade for a little pop of color. 5/5

STAYING POWER:

Burgundy Palette: I didn’t use primer, and after sitting outside for an hour on a windy Chicago day, this eyeshadow is still going strong. I couldn’t be more impressed with the formula of this product. 5/5

Posie K: I cannot be more enthusiastic about the lasting power of this lip kit. I’m seriously in awe. Does this formula have magic in it? But seriously, I put this on in the morning, went through my entire day, forgot I even had it on, looked in the mirror after dinner, and it looked like I had just applied it. This liquid lipstick feels so light on your lips, and it’s definitely one of the most comfortable lip products I own. 5/5

APPLICATION:

Burgundy Palette: To be honest, this was the first time I’ve attempted using eyeshadow. I’ve always associated eyeshadow with creasing and shading that isn’t as easy to achieve on monolids. However, this eyeshadow was incredibly easy to blend. It was extremely forgiving towards my rookie mistakes. This is a palette that I will be returning to for everyday use and a palette that I’d love to continue experimenting with for other looks. 5/5

Posie K: The liquid lipstick went on so smoothly.  Matte liquid lipsticks in particular can be too sticky, but Posie K glided on and dried matte within a minute. The liner felt super creamy as I put it on. There wasn’t any pull or drag along my lips. I definitely recommend filling in your lips instead of just lining them, because doing so definitely gave me more lasting power from the product. Regarding the lip kit as a whole, it’s so convenient to have a liner and liquid lipstick match perfectly. 5/5

OUR THOUGHTS ON THE PACKAGING:

Burgundy Palette: We were both hella annoyed that Kylie didn’t label her shadows on the front of the palette. It was annoying af to have to flip over the palette to see the names of the shadows. 4/5

The lip kits, however, have flawless packaging. Valentine came in the limited edition packaging, which was to die for. 5/5

Now, it’s my turn to dish…

I’m wearing Posie on my lips and a combo of all the shadows (lol) and applied them based on Kylie’s tutorial:

PIGMENTATION:

Burgundy Palette: Holyyyyyy- guys, this shadow came out super pigmented! I barely had to put any on the brush for it to show up. I had to blend it like crazy because the colors were super intense. The shades are super versatile as well- there’s so much room for creativity with this palette. 5/5

Posie: The color looked drastically different on me than Katie. It’s less of a pink and more of a mauve. It’s also definitely darker on my skin tone. I liked the color, but I’m still probably going to stick to my usual Makeup Forever lipstick as my go-to nude. 4.5/5

APPLICATION:

Burgundy Palette: The shadows were pretty blendable and weren’t too cakey or crumbly. 4.5/5

Screen Shot 2016-06-25 at 4.02.55 PM

Posie: I’m not the best at applying liquid lipstick, but it was definitely easier to apply Kylie’s lip kit than other brands. It also smells like candy- yum! 5/5

STAYING POWER:

Screen Shot 2016-06-25 at 4.02.55 PM

Burgundy Palette: I wore primer with my shadow and it stayed all day long, no problem. 5/5

Screen Shot 2016-06-25 at 4.02.55 PM

Posie: So…this stayed on until the next day. I took it off with makeup remover at night, but woke up the next morning with the liner still visible. Now THAT’s staying power! The lip kit is also so lightweight- it barely feels like you’re wearing it. It also doesn’t dry out your lips as much as other brands. Basically, it’s amazing. The hype is REAL. 5/5

FINAL THOUGHTS:

After months of deliberation, we’re both glad we finally caved and got ourselves some lip kits and palettes. The palette comes out to $6 per shadow which is totally fair. The lip kits are a bit on the pricer side but they truly are super long lasting, easy to apply, and non-drying. We both loved everything we tried and this was such a fun post to put together! We hope that you find all of this info helpful if you’ve been on the fence about buying Kylie’s stuff. If you’ve tried other Kylie Cosmetics products, feel free to leave links to your posts in the comments! <3 Stay glam <3
