DIY Exfoliating Face Scrub with NeedCrystals

Hey, everyone! If you’re a regular reader, you probably read my post about my skincare routine that went live just over a month ago (and if you’re new, check it out by clicking the link!). I talked about how I use a cleanser, a serum, a toner, a moisturizer, and a spot treatment. One super key thing that was missing, however, was a face scrub!

It’s kind of crazy how I totally skipped over face scrubs in my last skincare post because I absolutely LOVE them! I’ve tried so many, including but not limited to St. Ives scrubs, Clean and Clear scrubs, Lush scrubs, etc. Some worked for me and others didn’t, but as you guys also probably know, I’m DIY till I die, which means I love making my own stuff and customizing everything. When I learned about NeedCrystals, I was enamored with the idea of having more control over my scrub since I’d be making it myself. NeedCrystals sells microdermabrasion crystals in different granule sizes, and you can add them to any base you want at home to create your very own scrub. This is perfect if you want to have more control over what you’re putting on your face or if traditional store-bought scrubs aren’t cutting it for you. NeedCrystals was kind enough to send me A POUND of crystals (that’s a lot, folks, these crystals are tiny yet powerful) and I used them to make my own, customized scrub right at home!

To make your own scrub, simply add one tablespoon of crystals to two tablespoons of your base substance of choice (aloe, cucumber gel, shea butter, jojoba oil, whatever you want!). Then, lather your new scrub on to your face, but be careful not to scrub too hard, otherwise, you can irritate your skin. The crystals work to rejuvenate your skin by stimulating cell growth and help correct redness and acne scarring as well. After gently massaging your face with the scrub for three minutes, wash it off with water.

The crystals are extremely fine; finer than grains of salt and finer than any typical scrub ingredient you would find in a drugstore.

I could feel the crystals on my face, but they felt smoother and gentler than a typical scrub. This is great if your skin normally feels too irritated by over-the-counter scrubs.

My skin felt AMAZINGLY soft after using this! I absolutely love how gentle and refreshing this felt on my face.

I personally feel so much better using this scrub that I made not only because it feels awesome and gets the job done, but because I know exactly what’s in it. Drugstore scrubs especially can be filled with chemicals and other substances that are unclear to the average consumer, but I used my NeedCrystals (which are composed of aluminum oxide) and my all-natural aloe vera which contains five very simple ingredients for a grand total of six ingredients. It’s important that we know what we’re putting on our skin and into our bodies each and every day.

Want to try this yourself? Here’s where you can purchase NeedCrystals and the other essential ingredients for your future face scrub:
