Hey everyone! I’m back this week with another beauty review (sorry they aren’t spaced out better, I’ll try to work on that ¯\_(ツ)_/¯). Today, I’ll be discussing yet another budget brand. This one is relatively new to the game: C.Y.O. Cosmetics! C.Y.O, which stands for “Create Your Own,” launched earlier this year, in August. You can find it at Boots overseas and at Walgreens/Duane Reade in the United States. Everything in this line is under $15, but is the quality up to par? That’s what I decided to find out with this C.Y.O. cosmetics review.
I bought four different products from C.Y.O. to test and rate for you all. I picked a combination of standard products and products unique to C.Y.O., so I purchased a kohl eyeliner pencil, a matte primer, an overnight lip primer, and an ombre lipstick.
I ran out of my liquid liner right as I was due to test these products out in time for today, which was quite fateful! This was my first time using pencil eyeliner in YEARS, so I was eager to experiment.
Wow, I discovered I am SO RUSTY at pencil application! I definitely struggled to apply this, but I think it’s because I’m so used to using liquid liner. If you’re a regular pencil user, then I think that this will be just fine. I was able to do a pretty solid cat eye even though it had been ages.
While I’m used to the matte look of my liquid liner, this pencil liner has a softer look because of the texture. It was difficult to get it to be as black as I wanted, but that may be because I’m not used to the amount of pressure that pencil liners require to achieve the desired pigmentation. Could totally just be a me thing, but just to be safe, I’m knocking down a few points for pigmentation.
This stayed on all day with no signs of wear and tear. 5/5
Matte primer is something that I’ve never previously owned or used before. This one is inexpensive, so I decided to give it a go. I also don’t have anything to compare this to, as this is my first primer, so keep that in mind!
This primer was very easy to apply and seeped directly into my skin. This was pretty straightforward.
DID THIS ACTUALLY WORK?
I have foundation that I use each morning that tends to appear cakey (I really need to get rid of it lol) especially in between my eyebrows. I happened to have a blemish in that area when I was testing these products, so I dabbed some of this primer on and then applied my foundation. And guess what?? My foundation looked LESS CAKEY! It was still a little cakey, but not as much as it would have been without this primer. So, yeah, I think this definitely works and I’m gonna be using it in my regular makeup routine from now on.
‘Tis the season for chapped/dry lips, unfortunately. I picked up this overnight lip primer, curious as to whether or not it would alleviate my cracked lips.
The tube makes application of this product super simple. It’s basically like a lip gloss; simply squeeze the tube and run it across your lips for foolproof application.
DID THIS ACTUALLY WORK?
Uhh… yeah guys, I don’t think this actually works that well. It could be because I got a ton of sleep and it wore off by the time I got out of bed? If you don’t get a ton of sleep, then this might work. I’d love for someone else to try it out! I’m going to continue testing it in the meantime.
We all know that the ombre lip trend hit Instagram/editorials HARD, but few brands have tried to capitalize on it. C.Y.O. clearly did some research on what’s ~cool~ and came out with this half and half lipstick to make our feeds #goals.
The application was tricky on this. You have to turn the tube to the darker color to line your lips and then rotate it to fill them in with the lighter color. The fact that the tips aren’t pointed like regular lipstick definitely poses a challenge to creating smooth and sharp lines. Luckily, the glossy formula helps keep things cleaner.
Pigmentation did not disappoint here! The colors showed up very brightly. It was a little hard to see the orange inner color, but it’s there and it definitely adds more depth to your overall look. I would love to try the purple/pink version of this cause I feel like it would be easier to see the ombre effect.
I applied the colors and promptly made and ate shakshuka, and this actually had great staying power. There’s a little bit of wear and tear in the corners of my lips, but overall, most of it stayed on after I ate a full meal!
Overall, these products from C.Y.O. worked great and are incredibly affordable. I think the matte primer and liner are definitely steals! I definitely want to try more of this line; they have eyeshadows, lip glosses, and highlighters, too!
And…judging by the title of this post, you’re probably wondering about the GIVEAWAY!
