Bright yellow has been welcomed in my wardrobe for years now, but one color I never quite got behind was dark yellow, a.k.a., mustard. When I ordered this Rebecca Minkoff Christy Bag in Butterscotch, I was expecting it to be a slightly lighter yellow. I was dismayed and completely caught off-guard. I didn’t know how to wear mustard yellow at all! How was I supposed to work my new bag into my wardrobe when I literally didn’t own any other mustard pieces?!?

The answer? I started with something simple. I broke in this bag by wearing a classic look – a white tee with a black dress over it. A surefire combo that goes with any accessories, no matter the color. The bag stood its ground against the black dress (and blended in perfectly against the taxis!).

While I do have quite a bit of black and white in my wardrobe, I thought long and hard about what other ways I could potentially incorporate mustard into my everyday looks. With fall around the corner, you can expect to see mustard yellow popping up just about everywhere. If you’re still on the fence about hopping aboard the mustard train, consider the fact that it’s so versatile it’s ridiculous. Mustard honestly looks amazing with black, white, blues, purples, reds.
