Michael’s Luxury Consignment has sponsored this blog post. All opinions are my own.
If you’ve been following me/this blog for the past five years, you might know a thing or two about my campy roots. Some of my earliest posts feature the campiest, craziest, zaniest pieces I could get my hands on, including but not limited to: a Hey Arnold two-piece look, a skirt with an all-over rainbow sticker print, and a heart emoji crop top. Although I’ve set aside many of the insane parts of my wardrobe in favor of easier-to-match parts in recent years, I’ve still been known to tout my kooky bag collection every now and then. When the theme of this year’s Met Gala was announced, I received, I kid you not, dozens of messages about how the theme was so on brand for me. One of these messages happened to be from the iconic Michael’s Luxury Consignment, saying they wanted me to style a head-to-toe camp-inspired look using items from their brick-and-mortar store and do a photo shoot! To which I said, heck YES!
To give you further context, Michael’s is a family-owned luxury consignment shop located at 1125 Madison Avenue. For over 60 years, they’ve been providing a curated selection of designer clothes, handbags, and jewelry to New York’s most fashionable crowd. Not an NYC local? No problem – you can order pieces directly from their website, with free shipping included for the contiguous 48 states.
I walked into Michael’s Luxury Consignment and was instantly taken aback by the HUGE selection of merchandise! They have a wide range of styles – but I was on a strict mission to find the campiest items in the entire store.
After grabbing about five different dresses initially, I ended up choosing this Missoni viscose dress for my camp-inspired look. I was really drawn to the rainbow detailing against the black. The orange stitching reminded me of flames, and the green ones looked to me like blades of grass. It also reminded me of the four elements (leave a comment if Avatar: The Last Airbender was also one of your fave shows growing up 🙋🏻♀️). V into it.
Normally, with a patterned dress, I would’ve gone for a plain bag, but this is camp, after all! I ended up picking the busiest bag in the entire store, which is this beautifully detailed Pellegrino clutch. The beading on it is absolutely impeccable and the variety of patterns kept me mesmerized for several minutes.
The bag and the dress together made for such a cute look! We shot in front of a construction site to flame the camp fans even further. I was so comfortable in this dress. I’m gonna try pairing patterned things with one another more often since this dress and clutch combo looked so good. Do you guys like this look? How do you feel about campy fashion? Whose Met Gala look was your favorite this year? Leave your thoughts with me in the comments below.
