5 Beauty and Skincare Empties: What I Loved and What I Wouldn’t Buy Again

Welcome to the first-ever BEAUTY EMPTIES post here on NRoH! You might be familiar with the haul genre, which is essentially when bloggers, like me, showcase to YOU, the reader, new items they’ve purchased. The ~empties~ genre is kind of the opposite of a haul, instead of the new, it showcases the used and the worn. These are 5 beauty/skincare products that I used in their ENTIRETY so I can give you a detailed and accurate assessment of whether or not they’re worth your money, whereas hauls are largely speculative. So without further ado, let’s talk empties!

5 beauty and skincare empties nyx setting spray

1. NYX Dewy Finish Setting Spray

I’m pretty new to the whole “setting your makeup” thing. As in, I picked up a couple of setting powders but didn’t really know what the heck I was doing with them. I decided to pick up this spray because a) I love a good dewy skin lewk and b) a spray seemed a whole lot simpler to me than messing around with powder and a brush (ironic af because I’m an eyeshadow enthusiast but ANYWAY). After trying this, I can honestly say that I’m #teamsettingspray over #teamsettingpowder. This spray is great for the price and I’m hooked.

2. Origins Ginzing Energy-Boosting Gel Moisturizer

Moisturizer is game-changing. I believe that the right moisturizer can make you look and FEEL amazing. Enter this Ginzing one from Origins. I have this thing with scents in that I LOOOOVE a citrus-y sent to help wake me up in the morning when I’m groggy af. This moisturizer has an invigorating scent and is packed with ingredients (ginseng! coffee! yas!) that are designed to bring you back to life after sleeping for 9, 10, 11 hours like I do lol #slothlife. This is suuuch a good morning moisturizer to add to your routine, I highly recommend it.

3. Mario Badescu Facial Spray with Aloe, Chamomile, and Lavender

Here’s the thing, it’s not that this product is bad. I freakin love aloe, chamomile, and lavender to DEATH (seriously, those are all three of my favorite ingredients, which is why I bought this spray in the first place). I kept this on my nightstand as part of my bedtime routine, and I gotta say, spraying yourself in the face with ANY liquid when you’re trying to wind down is … less than pleasant. I found that the act of spraying myself in the face would wake me up again rather than relax me. So no, I would not buy this particular spray again. Instead, I would go for the rosewater or green tea varieties.

4. Drunk Elephant Protini Polypeptide Cream

I’ve tried quite a few moisturizers and Drunk Elephant is a buzzy brand, so I was excited that this was part of a Sephora gift set. However, this moisturizer did literally nothing. I didn’t feel or see any difference after putting this on. And this retails for $68??? Hell no. You’re waaaaay better off buying the Origins one for a morning moisturizer and I also highly recommend the Neutrogena Hydro Boost one as well. This is NOT worth it.

5. Bed Head Oh Bee Hive! Matte Dry Shampoo

It’s CRUCIAL to pick a good dry shampoo, AKA: one that doesn’t leave nasty white residue behind when you’re already scrambling to get out the door (#mornings, am I right?). This Bed Head one is pretty good! It leaves little to no residue, so you can dash out of your house with confidence that your hair won’t look like you haven’t washed it in 5 days. I would totally buy this again, but I’ve actually found another dry shampoo that I like EVEN MORE (which I’ll share here soon).

Those are all of my most recent beauty empties! I hope these #hottakes were helpful to read. Have you tried any of these products? If so, what did you think of them? This is a new type of post, so let me know if you were into it so I can write more in the future. Your constructive feedback is super important to me 😊
