With NYFW just around the corner, I’ve been thinking about how to be more inventive than ever with my styling. Which pieces can I pair together that I haven’t before 🤔? This train of thought led me deep into my past – bear with me for a sec.

I’m not sure if you’ve noticed, but I’m a big fan of edgy/masculine style as well as dressing traditionally femme. Get you a girl who can do both, am I right? This love of styling myself regardless of the clothing’s “gender” (I’m putting gender in quotes because it’s ridiculous that clothes are gendered in the first place, but #society likes to put everything in boxes, it’s super annoying) has come from an early age. I remember when I was like 8 or so that I really wanted a pair of Spongebob pajamas (FYI, nothing has changed, I would STILL rock a pair of Spongebob pajamas nowadays). The pajamas were from the “boys” section, but it didn’t matter to me. I WANTED the Spongebob pajamas, I didn’t care if they were for “boys!” My mom obliged, and I proudly wore boy pajamas by night and my glitter leopard print coat by day. Mixing masculine and feminine clothing since day 1, y’all.

Fast forward today, and ya girl is a proud shopper of all sections of any clothing store. Men, women, kids, you name it – I’m there. I began to think about how to mix masculine and feminine style by pairing the most traditionally masculine pieces in my wardrobe with the most traditionally feminine ones. The result would be something way more unique than your everyday jeans and a tee!

I landed on my men’s Japanese baseball jersey paired with a floral skirt. The men’s jersey is oversized, while the skirt plays up a more feminine silhouette. I’m totally obsessed with how these two pieces balance each other out.

You probably have florals in your wardrobe, but I wouldn’t be surprised if you didn’t own a jersey. For the jersey-less, that’s ok! Here are other great starters for mixing masculine and feminine clothing:

● Floral prints with combat boots or sneakers

● Leather with lace

● Structured blazers with dresses
