Hey, everyone! I’m so excited to see the leaves changing- I broke out my hat, boots, and leggings for my first ever lookbook! When Tobi approached me for a collaboration, I was definitely intrigued. I wore dresses from Tobi to many of my sorority formals in college, but I had never explored their site for everyday pieces before. I wanted to pick pieces that were versatile and that scream fall, so I went with these two plaid dresses in very different cuts and colors. Plaid and flannel are just so classic, how could I not?

For the first look, I wore this loose-fitting, long sleeve red flannel dress. I may look calm, cool, and collected in these photos but let me tell you, I was sweating bullets shooting this in the subway! This dress kept me warm and snug- and it was a breeze to throw on over my leggings, although I did have to throw on a tank top underneath due to the low cut. I’d recommend styling this with a cute pair of fall boots for an effortless and seasonably appropriate look.

For look 2, I chose this sleeveless dress with a boyish, blue and green plaid pattern. The squares of this plaid dress are much smaller than that of the first dress, so I don’t feel like I’m being repetitive here. Also, this dress has a super interesting tie sleeve detail; there are two mock sleeves that tie in the front JUST for aesthetic purposes. I definitely thought that was an odd detail but in a good way! I played with textures by adding a chunky knit grey beanie. If you want to score this dress for yourself, you’re in luck because it’s on clearance for just $10! So affordable and so chic.

Hey, everyone! If you’ve been following me on Instagram, I’m sure you saw me posting like crazy throughout NYFW. This was my fourth year attending, and I’m so proud to say I attended a whopping five presentations and two celebrations, all on my own accord. Each event was so completely different; I loved and admired each event for what it was. Here’s the full low-down on where I went and what I saw:

WEDNESDAY: Pamella Roland Presentation

I was so happy to kick off my fashion week experience with Pamella Roland. This was, by far, the most traditional runway show I saw this week. Her designs are always jaw-droppingly gorgeous; the beading and the colors were so stunning and breathtaking! The craftsmanship that went into each look was simply unparalleled. I had a great time at this show!

WHAT I WORE ON WEDNESDAY (each outfit recap contains shoppable links):

Dress: Forever 21

Shoes: Steve Madden

Bag: Urban Outfitters

Lip color: NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Cruella

 FRIDAY: FLYING SOLO Presentation

Ok, guys, this was the weirdest event I’ve ever been to in my life. I get to the Flying Solo store in Soho, and I walk in and it looks like complete chaos. I legit had no clue what was going on at first. It just looked like people were aimlessly walking around inside an empty store. I aimlessly walked around until I figured out what was happening. I saw models throughout the store just standing there. Then, I realized that next to their feet on the floor was the name of the designer who had dressed them. They were totally werkin’ it for everyone’s phones and cameras which I thought was so hilarious! I loved how this part of the event was so interactive. Then, after a few minutes, the models would disappear and new ones would appear in the same spot wearing different clothes from different designers. The staff would then tear off the piece of paper taped to the ground and replace it.

The second half of this event was a traditional runway show. This was the LONGEST freakin’ runway show ever; a total of 33 designers presented their looks. In my opinion, it was too long. People got visibly bored as time went on and I felt bad for the designers that presented towards the latter half. I tried to stay focused for as long as possible. This show featured models walking down in tandem, and had both men and women.  I loved seeing so much fashion at once, but like I said before, it was a little overwhelming and also tiring.

Maison the Faux Presentation

Maison the Faux is known for being super out-there. One look at their Instagram account, and you’ll understand what I mean. Since I looked at their social media well before this show, I was not at all surprised by the oddity of their presentation. This was the most theatrical NYFW show I saw; there was a main “character” in the middle of the runway throughout the show and they made use of these changing room/pod things? Not sure how to describe them, but it was definitely wacky and interesting! This show also featured models from a variety of categories (different genders, sizes, races) so that was really great to see.

WHAT I WORE ON FRIDAY:

T shirt: Madewell

Jersey dress: Nuyu

Shoes: FILA

Lip color: NYX Velvet Matte Lipstick in Midnight Muse

Bag: Marc Jacobs

MONDAY: Hakan Akkaya Presentation

Hakan Akkaya is a Turkish designer who has been showing at NYFW since 2012. This was my first exposure to his work and I absolutely loved it. This runway show featured both men and women. His pieces were black and white, which I am personally a huge fan of. There were all white looks, all black looks, mixes of both, zebra looks, and striped looks. His looks were definitely on the edgier side, and I could tell that the crowd was super into it. This show was filled to the brim with people- I barely got a seat and many were left standing!

Paxyma Presentation

Paxyma is a BRAND NEW label. When I received an invitation to their presentation, they only had 12 Instagram followers, guys. And they got to present at NYFW? Insane, I tell you.

This was not a traditional runway show. Instead, they had a cast of models standing in podium style right in front of the viewers. The models paraded around and eventually formed one straight line and I was standing basically a foot in front of them!

I loved the yellow, black, and white color palette of this collection, as well as the utilitarian details found throughout. I also loved how there was racial diversity amongst the models as well as diversity in age; there were clearly a few models who were on the older side, which I thought was fantastic.

ChicCartel Launch Party

Right after the Paxyma presentation, ChicCartel hosted a launch party on the deck at Pier 59. ChicCartel is a new online shopping destination offering clothes and accessories from independent designers. They are also making sure they offer clothes at a variety of sizes, not just the traditional petite sizes usually offered from designers. I really admire their dedication to supporting local and independent businesses and their mission to be a more inclusive shopping destination. I actually got reposted on their Instagram, which made me feel pretty good:

They gave everyone coupons for their shop and they had models walking around wearing the clothes that are live on the site right this minute. Potential customers could interact with the models which I thought was really fun and exciting.

WHAT I WORE ON MONDAY:

Turtleneck: H&M

Skirt: Forever 21

Tights: Amazon

Shoes: Dr. Martens

WEDNESDAY: Polyvore x Universal Standard Party

Polyvore threw an event in the Universal Standard showroom in the Garment District. There was wine, cheese, candy, and networking abound. The thing that I was most excited about, however, was the goodie bag, which was filled with beauty products and stickers!

WHAT I WORE ON WEDNESDAY:

Dress: Forever 21

Lip color: Kristen by Kylie Cosmetics

FINAL THOUGHTS:

This was my busiest NYFW to date! This was also the most inclusive NYFW I’ve seen so far- I was pleasantly surprised by the number of shows with diverse models. Fashion Week goes by way too fast and I’m so sad it’s already over, but look out for another recap in February when I attend Resort NYFW this winter!
