Style Icon: Sky Ferreira

Sky was the emblem of my teenage days; anyone who knew me well in high school knows how much I adored Sky for her music, her attitude, and of course, her style.  Sky definitely inspired my gradual shift from preppy/girly to edgy/grunge.  Her tough, raw, look of combat boots and graphic jackets and sweaters balanced with perfect eyeliner and lipstick created a whole new set of style and beauty goals for me.  Sky’s style, like anyone’s, changed as she rebranded her music – her old music is poppier, her hair long and bouncy, while her newer sound is more alt as she rocked a bleached chop. Both looks are iconic, however, and throughout time, Sky can still be found rocking Jeremy Scott and MAC’s Russian Red – as can I.

For this look, I channeled Sky by rocking second-day tousled hair with black top and bottom liner. Sky is often photographed wearing loose blouses with more tight fitting shorts or skirts and loves to make her socks part of the outfit. Are you a fan of Sky? What’s your favorite song or campaign of hers? Feel free to start a discussion in the comments.

Timeless

Hey, everyone! Long time no post, but now that I’m done with my Bachelor’s thesis there’s no excuse for not writing 😝! Today, I’ve dressed it waaaay up thanks in part to Grayton Automatic Watches! They sent me a beautiful and luxurious silver watch accented with blue hands. I felt like a CEO in this ensemble, but besides my watch and my Longchamp bag, everything else in this look is from your favorite fast-fashion retailers (i.e. Forever 21 and H&M). Looking sharp doesn’t have to break the bank, and I’m a huge fan of mixing high and low clothes and accessories! This look was definitely one that’s more outside my comfort zone, but I felt sophisticated and ready to take on the world!

Sheer Bliss

Mesh is definitely having a moment- street style stars have been seen sporting fishnet tights, mesh dresses, and all kinds of see-through shirts. I scored a super affordable mesh shirt on Amazon to get in on this trend- and I was so excited to finally have a visible way to sport my Calvin Klein bralette. I tucked the shirt into my black skinny jeans, threw on my Nikes and my vintage Levi’s jacket for a look with that classic urban edge. A bold lip added further contrast to my otherwise colorless ensemble. I’m excited to experiment with layering this top by wearing different bralettes underneath and maybe even layering dresses on top. Have you styled a sheer top? Feel free to leave a link in the comments!

Leopard is the New Black

Hey, everyone! I’ve been a lifelong fan of leopard print. The purple leopard print coat with hints of red glitter that I rocked circa 2004 was my sartorial peak, to be quite honest. If I hadn’t physically grown out of that coat, I’d probably still be wearing it 😬. These days, I’m obsessed with styling my leopard turtleneck all different ways. Here, I layered it under my velvet skater dress and paired it with my knee high socks and heeled lace up booties. I threw on my trench coat and grabbed my sunglasses and leather bag to complete the look! For makeup, I used brown eyeshadow and did a black cat eye and went with a redish-pinkish lip color, since I thought a bold red would be too distracting for this particular look. I loveeeed this look so much and I might feature other ways to style this turtleneck on here- let me know in the comments if that’s something you’d like to see me do!

FILA x Gosha Rubchinskiy

When news broke that up-and-coming Russian streetwear designer Gosha Rubchinskiy and old school Italian sportswear house FILA were teaming up, I was immediately captivated. FILA, once known as an uncool/your dad’s brand, is now becoming increasingly relevant, as part of the greater 90s nostalgia/”so uncool it’s cool” fashion movement. Meanwhile, Gosha’s work has been gaining more and more clout with streetwear enthusiasts with each drop. Therefore, the juxtaposition of the FILA branding with Gosha’s name in Cyrillic brings retro into an edgier dimension. The collection, said to be Gosha’s most accessible ever, includes shoes, socks, t shirts, and sweatshirts- all of which will be sold on SSENSE while supplies last.  When asked to describe the collection, Rubchinskiy himself reportedly stated, “Это очень Италия и очень Гоша.” In other words, “It’s very Italy and very Gosha.”
